The Center for Women's Health plays an important role in the research component within our hospital, conducting several clinical research studies at any given time.
Current women's health research areas include:
- Understanding how progesterone controls cell function, which may help develop new strategies in preventing preterm birth. Conducted by Drs. Garfield and Chambliss
- Estimation of the best route of administration of progestins for inhibition of preterm labor. Conducted by Drs. Garfield and Chambliss
- Determining the best methods of monitoring uterine contractions. Conducted by Drs. Garfield and Balducci
- Evaluating the performance of an EMG device in monitoring uterine contractions. Conducted by Drs. Garfield and Balducci
- Testing a non-invasive device for the evaluation of the cervix. Conducted by Drs. Garfield and Balducci
- Determining effects of tocolytics on uterine contractions during pregnancy. Dr. Garfield
- Researching ways to identify high-risk infants who may benefit from early interventions to delay and prevent diabetes. Conducted by Dr. Huang
If patients qualify as candidates, they may be approached to participate voluntarily in any one of these studies.
