Patient Accommodations


We have multiple services available to help you and your family work with our doctors, nurses, and staff to get the most from your hospital stay.

ATM

A Bank of America ATM is located next to the Gift Shop on the first floor, and a Southwest Healthcare ATM is located in the cafeteria.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria is located on the first floor and offers full service meals, hot and cold entrees, salads, and deli and grill specials. A 20 percent discount is offered to senior citizens 65 and older. Vending machines are also available. Visitors are welcome to dine in the cafeteria.

Hours: Breakfast: 6 – 9:30 a.m. Lunch: 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Dinner: 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Late: 1 – 3 a.m.

Cell Phones

Cell phones may be used in the hospital except when closer than 6 feet to medical equipment connected to a patient and in intensive care units.

Chaplain Services

Chaplains are available seven days a week and at night. If you wish to speak to a chaplain, dial “0”, or ask your nurse to contact the chaplain. The hospital chapel is on the first floor. It is available 24 hours a day to patients, visitors and staff. Catholic Mass is offered on a regular basis. Call 602-406-3275 for a schedule. Mass is also broadcast on the hospital television system Monday through Thursday on Channel 81 at noon. On Saturdays, Mass is broadcast at 5 p.m. from April through October, and at 4 p.m. from November through March. On Sundays, Mass is broadcast at 10:30 a.m.

Concierge Services

St. Joseph's patients a personal concierge service. The concierge provides everything from gift recommendations to coordinating travel to planning parties. Use of the concierge is free; however, the user is responsible for the cost of products or services purchased. For example, while there is not a cost to provide customized gift recommendations, the customer does have to pay for the gift itself. The concierge is located in the main admitting lobby and operates Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Patients who can't stop by the concierge in person can still take advantage of the service 24 hours a day, seven days either by calling 602-406-4949, sending an email to concierge@chw.edu, or visiting www.lesconcierges.com/stjosephs.

Cuisine on Call

Room service meals are available through our Cuisine on Call program. You may order your meals at any time between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., seven days a week. Hot breakfast items are available until 10 a.m. daily and cold breakfast, lunch, and dinner items are available the remainder of the day. Items ordered must fit within the diet ordered by your physician. Dietitians are also available for nutrition assessment, evaluation, counseling, and personalized diet instruction.

Fire Safety

We periodically conduct fire drills. If you hear an alarm, stay where you are. In the event of an actual emergency, hospital staff will notify you.

 
Flowers

Flowers may be brought in by visitors, delivered to the hospital, or delivered by the hospital’s Gift Shop to all patient care areas except the intensive care units. When bringing fresh-cut flowers, please bring a vase or container. Flowers will be delivered to patient rooms as they are received.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is located on the first floor by the Camelback Elevators. You may purchase flowers, cards, gifts, books, magazines, phone cards, clothing, and snacks. Orders can be placed at the Gift Shop and delivered to hospitalized patients by calling 602-406-4141. Major credit cards are accepted.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Closed on holidays

Internet

Wireless internet is available in most areas of the hospital. To access the wireless network, please contact Concierge at 602-406-4949 for a voucher.

Interpreters

St. Joseph’s offers interpretation and translation skills in a variety of Native American and foreign languages, as well as American Sign Language. Nurses and physicians will request an interpreter when a patient needs to receive medical information. You may also request an interpreter by calling 602-406-5687. Cyracom phones are available in all hospital areas.

Mail

Patient mail is distributed Monday through Friday. If a patient has been discharged, mail will be forwarded to the patient’s home. Be sure to tell family and friends to write your room number on any correspondence.

Passport Program

With the approval of your physician, you may leave your assigned room for a short period of time. Ask your nurse for an orange patient passport badge if you wish to do so. This helps the nurse to know where you are if medications or services are needed.

Patient Safety

In the interest of safety for our patients, anyone who has symptoms of a cold or flu (ie: runny nose, fever, sneezing and/or coughing) should not visit hospitalized patients. Small children must be accompanied by a non-patient adult at all times. At times throughout the year, visitors under 18 may be restricted due to community-wide illness.

Phones for the Hearing Impaired

If you require the use of a telephone for the hearing impaired, we offer volume-controlled handsets and phones (T.D.D., T .T.Y. and/ or test telephone). Ask your nurse for assistance. Other equipment is also available for hearing-impaired patients.

 
Smoking

St. Joseph’s is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking and any other tobacco product use are not permitted anywhere on campus. Patients are not allowed to smoke. Please talk to your doctor or nurse about alternatives to smoking while you are in the hospital.

Starbucks

A Starbucks kiosk is available in the front lobby of the hospital. It is open Monday-Friday, 5:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, 6 a.m. – noon.

Telephone

Each patient room, except for those in intensive care units, is equipped with a telephone that can be used for on- and off-campus calls. Long-distance calls may be made with a calling card or credit card. Cellular phones may be used in the hospital except in intensive care units. Courtesy phones are located throughout the hospital.

TV

Each patient room is equipped with a television and a radio, which are controlled using your call button. Please remember to keep the volume low, since other patients may be sensitive to the noise.

Valuables

St. Joseph’s does not assume or accept responsibility for the property of any patient. It is not recommended to bring money, jewelry, important documents, or other items of value to the hospital. If you were admitted because of an emergency, ask the Emergency Department or Admitting Department to arrange for your valuables to be deposited in the hospital safe. For pickup, call 602-406-3363.

Vending Machines

Vending machines are available 24 hours a day in the cafeteria on the first floor of the hospital. They are also located throughout the hospital on most floors, including the Neurorehabilitation Department; Emergency Department; Third Avenue Bridge; 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th floors of the Patient Tower; and the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th floors of the Main Building. Ask your nurse or a staff member for the nearest location.

Visiting hours vary depending on department and patient needs. Please see your unit welcome letter for visiting hours on your unit.
