Undergraduate Student Research


Research Program


The Undergraduate Student Research Program consists of full-time summer employment as a research assistant under the direction and supervision of a staff scientist.  Year round research opportunities are also available, as are research opportunities leading to the preparation and defense of an honors thesis. Undergraduate students may be paid a stipend for the summer.

Program activities include participation in research and delivering a presentation of their research during Student Research Day Symposium.


Eligibility


In order to be eligible for the Undergraduate Student Research Program, students must have completed their freshman year of college-level education by the time they begin laboratory work. Prior experience in a scientific laboratory as well as completed course work in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology and biochemistry is preferred but not required. Returning students are given first consideration for entry into the program.
 
Application Process
Applications must be made in writing prior to February 27th. The application should include a letter of intent stating the reason for seeking the position and the dates available. Any pertinent experience should be described in the application. Personal or telephone interviews are scheduled at the convenience of the individual scientists. Students will be notified by April 15th.
