Barrow is offering free stroke screenings on Friday, May 16 in honor of Stroke Awareness Month. Stroke is the nation’s third leading cause of death and the number one cause of long-term disability in adults. The stroke screenings will include the American Stroke Association’s risk appraisal, blood pressure and pulse checks, non-fasting glucose and cholesterol blood checks and counseling. People who are identified as “high risk” will be offered free carotid doppler screenings by Proactive Health Screenings. The stroke screenings are free but space is limited.
