St. Joseph’s Pediatrics provides both well and sick care to children from birth to age 18 years of age. It also provides a full range of well baby services including, immunizations, parent education, developmental screening and testing. Sick children can usually be seen same day and well children within three days.
Asthma Clinic
This clinic is staffed by pediatric faculty, a clinical pharmacist, a nurse specialist and an asthma educator. Appointments are one hour in length and include patient education and medication management by the asthma care team. The goal of the clinic is to empower patients to manage their disease resulting in fewer Emergency Room visits and hospitalizations.
Breastfeeding Support
All of the pediatricians at St. Joseph’s Pediatrics promote breastfeeding for the first year of life, and Dr. Laurie Jones is now a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor who is available for breastfeeding appointments. Dr. Jones observes the breastfeeding and makes recommendations for both mother and baby to support sustained breastfeeding. There is ample time to provide hands-on support and education during these appointments.
Healthy Steps
In 2007, St. Joseph’s Pediatrics implemented the Healthy Steps Program which is an evidence-based model for training physicians on typical child development. Healthy Steps is a national initiative that focuses on the importance of the first five years of life and emphasizes a close relationship between pediatricians and parents in addressing the physical, emotional and intellectual growth and development of children. Standardized developmental tools are used to screen every 9, 18 and 24-month-old child coming for a well-child exam.
Obesity Clinic
Healthy for Life is a multi-discipline approach to help children 3-18 years old make lasting changes to improve their diet, fitness, and overall health. New patient visits will last 1½ hours, giving families time to meet with a dietitian, physical therapist, social worker, and general pediatrician. We will also screen for and treat complications of obesity in the Healthy for Life setting or by referring patients to other St. Joseph's resources. With this global approach and ample time, we hope to give patients and families the tools they need to become healthier and prevent chronic diseases.
