The Division of Pediatric Nephrology
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology at St. Joseph's provides comprehensive clinical care for patients with kidney disease from birth to age 18. Our staff comprises physicians who are board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric nephrology and who specialize in caring for children with kidney disorders, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome and other chronic disorders related to the kidneys. For more information about our pediatric nephrology programs, please call 602-406-6094.
As well as providing expert clinical services, the division has an active focus to develop and coordinate research studies in major kidney centers throught the United States and Canada. These studies are designed to evaluate a variety of treatments for adults and children with kidney disorders. Currently, two major clinical trials are underway. The North American IgAN Study II is evaluating the effects of a drug called mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in combination with two other drugs for the treatment of patients with IgA nephropathy. Approximately 150 patients have been evaluated for participation in this study and 40 patients are currently enrolled in the study.
The second major study in progress is called the Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) Clinical Trial. This study, which is sponsored by the National institutes of Health, is comparing the effectiveness of two different treatment regimens in decreasing proteinuria, or high levels of protein in the urine, in patients with steroid-resistant FSGS.
For more information about these studies, please call 1-800-345-4426.
