The Center for Esophageal and Thoracic Disease is proud to offer multiple services and programs to its patients.
Advanced Lung Disease Program
This program provides services to patients with advanced COPD/Emphysema, Bronchiectasis, Pulmonary Fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases. COPD patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, a nutritionist and a pulmonary rehabilitation team. Treatment options include smoking cessation, medical therapy, nutritional management, pulmonary rehabilitation, genetic testing, surgical options and lung transplantation. In addition, techniques of Endobronchial Lung Volume Reduction are also being introduced. Similar multidisciplinary treatment approaches are also offered to patients with bronchiectasis and pulmonary fibrosis of various types.
Cystic Fibrosis Program for Adults and Adolescents
The adult CF program at St. Joseph’s provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care to cystic fibrosis patients. Services offered include diagnostic testing, counseling and treatment of all aspects of CF. In addition to the treating physicians and nurse coordinator, patients benefit from the services of a nutritionist, a social worker, respiratory and physical therapy.
Genetic Lung Disease Program
The Genetic Lung Disease Program provides comprehensive care for hereditary lung disorders like Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, and Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Deficiency.
Interventional Pulmonology
This area provides advanced bronchoscopic and pleuroscopic techniques for the treatment of thoracic disorders ranging from tracheobronchial stenosis to pleural effusions associated with malignant tumors. Advances in the area of flexible fiberoptic technology are enabling highly developed diagnostic services and complex airway management to be performed without surgical intervention. This program offers a full array of minimally invasive pulmonary diagnostic technology.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program involves education and exercise that has helped hundreds of people with lung disease return to an active life. The program teaches patients strategies for living with their disease and helps them rebuild their muscle tone. The program was the first in Arizona to be nationally certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Education & Research As a teaching facility, St. Joseph’s places a heavy emphasis on education and research activities.
