Future in Medicine
The journey after residency continues in many different directions for our residents. Due to the tremendous population growth in Phoenix and surrounding area, about 50 to 75 percent of graduates make Phoenix their home and preferred practice location. Attractive employment opportunities both in private practice and hospital-sponsored clinics are plentiful and available for those who choose to stay in the Valley of the Sun!
St. Joseph's has developed a Primary Care Physician Retention Program that can assit graduates in both locating and starting practices and provide them with income gurantees and attractive start up financial assistance. St. Joseph's Medical Group is the employed physician group at St. Joseph's and works closely with the Family Medicine Residency Program to help residents pursue their career at St. Joseph's.
Some graduates have chosen to continue their training by pursuing fellowships in Sports Medicine, Operative Obstetrics or Geriatrics. Each year, at least one graduate has entered the Military, serving as a commissioned officer in the United States, Army, Airforce or Navy. Several of our graduates have chosen exciting careers in rural locations in such states as AZ, CA, ID, NM and TX.
Whatever their choice of practice location, our residents feel ready, prepared and competent to move into any setting.
